Once applications have closed, you will be advised by email whether your application was successful or not.
If your application is successful, you will be sent a form to sign and return to TeachNZ indicating that you accept the award. TeachNZ will also advise your school that you have received an award and provide you and your school with a coding notice for payroll purposes.
The award you hold is for the year awarded only. For example, if you are awarded a Secondary Teachers' Study Award for 2019, the award is held and can only be charged for the 2019 year. If you wish to hold for 2020, you will need to apply during the 2020 applications round.
If your circumstances change during the time you hold the award, you MUST advise TeachNZ immediately in writing. For example, you must advise TeachNZ if you:
A new coding notice may need to be issued to you for payroll purposes. Please email: teacher.studyawards@education.govt.nz.
If you would like to like to find out more information about coding notices and relief costs, please click here.
When your study award finishes, you must send a copy of your results to teacher.studyawards@education.govt.nz.
If you are studying a PhD and will not be able to provide us with a final result before your study award ends, we require your academic supervisor to confirm the progress you have made in your year of study. They can do this by sending us a letter or an email.
Within three months of your sabbatical finishing, you must send TeachNZ a copy of your sabbatical report and/or a link if it is published elsewhere. The Educational Leaders website has some report writing guidelines if you need help. Send your report to teacher.studyawards@education.govt.nz.
If you received a study support grant, you can apply for a reimbursement of up to $500 toward your course fees, once you have successfully completed your course.
The TeachNZ team is here to help. If you have any questions, please contact us on 0800 165 225 or email teacher.studyawards@education.govt.nz.
